The British public has given its verdict on whether or not table tennis belongs in the Olympic Games in a major survey.
The results of the YouGov survey – carried out before and after Paris 2024 in the summer – are now out and make interesting reading.
Of the 45 sports on the Olympic programme, table tennis ranked comfortably in the top half in 17th place in the list of sports Britons find most interesting.
Some 25% of survey respondents expressed a strong interest in table tennis, above sports including badminton, hockey and equestrian. Athletics (52%) scored highest in this category, while breaking (12% was lowest).
In a question asking which sport Britons believe should NOT be included in the Olympics, table tennis this time featured comfortably in the bottom half, with only 12% believing it should not be part of the Games.
Among the sports to score worse were Olympic mainstays sailing, boxing and gymnastics. Golf was the highest scorer, with 54% believing it should not be included.
