Paul Drinkhall and Tom Jarvis went out in the second qualifying round of the Singapore Smash today, leaving only Liam Pitchford to fly the flag for England.

Drinkhall (WR 71) was beaten in a decider by Martin Allegro of Belgium, just as he had been in the WTt Feeder Dusseldorf last month.

On that occasion, the Englishman was 2-0 up. This time, it was 2-1, but the end outcome was the same as the world No 82 went through to the final qualifying round.

Jarvis (WR 121) had a tough task on paper as he faced the highest-ranked player in the qualifying draw, An Jaehyun of South Korea (WR 59). It proved just as tough in reality as he was beaten in three straight.

With Sam Walker and Tin-Tin Ho having gone out earlier in the competition, only Pitchford remains of the English contingent.

He is seeded straight into the main draw, which begins on Saturday and has been drawn against Germany’s Qiu Dang (WR 11). It gives him an early chance to avenge his defeat to the same opponent in the semi-finals of the Europe Top 16 last month.

The time and table for the match are to be confirmed. Follow the live action on the WTT YouTube channel.
