England’s four teams are looking to cement top-16 finishes as the team competitions at the European Youth Championships reach the key matches.

Both cadet teams and the junior girls are already assured a top-16 place, while the junior boys are bidding to seal their own place in the top bracket.

Cadet Girls

The squad of Sienna Jetha, Ella Pashley and Naomi Coker (pictured above) won their group with victories over Netherlands, Azerbaijan and Bulgaria and then had a good win over Belgium in the play-off round.

Their winning run ended at the hands of Ukraine in the first round of positional play-offs, but they will play Turkey later today in the ninth-16th bracket.

Cadet Boys

Two defeats in the group stage left the squad of Ralph Pattison, Isaac Kingham and Rohan Dani in third place in the group, but they got back on track with a good 3-2 win over Spain in the first play-offs.

Their first positional play-off saw them go down 3-0 to Austria and they next face Hungary in the ninth-16th bracket today.

Junior Girls

Mari Baldwin, Anaya Patel and Erin Green had a tough task in Group B and were defeated by Slovakia, Slovenia and Germany.

However, they rescued a chance to compete for a top 16 place with a 3-1 win over Greece in the play-offs, before falling to defeat by Poland in the first positional match.

That leaves them to compete for ninth-16th and they will face Spain today.

Connor Green, Louis Price and Ben Piggott ended up in third place in the group on countback, having defeated Scotland and Serbia but lost narrowly to Norway.

It meant a second group stage – and they defeated Switzerland 3-1 to keep their hopes alive. The second group match is against Spain today, with a chance to climb into the top 16 at stake.
