Denise Payet and Matthew Daish did not make it through the group stage at the European Under-21 Championships in Spa, Belgium.

Payet started well with a 4-1 (11-9, 11-9, 9-11, 16-14, 11-6) victory over Sophie Walloe of Denmark, but she was then defeated in five by Lucie Gauthier of France, ranked one place above her in the seeding list.

She needed to win her last match against Gul Pembe Ozkaya of Turkey, but lost in six and did not advance to the next stage.

Daish started with a 4-1 defeat by Gabrielius Camara of Netherlands and was then beaten in four straight by 11th seed Lev Katsman of Russia. His final match was against Mattias Monguisti of San Marino, which he lost in six.

In the doubles, only Payet took to the court, partnering Andrea Pavlovic of Croatia. The pair were the 10th seeds, but fell at the first hurdle, beaten 11-9 in a decider by Patricia Santos & Ines Matos of Portugal.
