The Isle of Wight Winter League has just commenced. Almost 100 players of all ages have registered for the various teams, spread over three divisions.
The Island’s table tennis association was inaugurated in 1923, placing it in the top 10 oldest Associations in England.
There is a good spread of ages and abilities on the Island; with the Association’s President, Bert Paice, who is still an enthusiastic player in his 90s; and 10 teenagers, who have come through the Island’s coaching system, and are benefitting from the guidance and support of older players, who are more than happy to encourage and advise them.
Here are some of the teams and pairs (pictured) that are expected to dominate the league and various tournaments this coming season.
In addition, the Island is expected to enter teams once again in the Senior British Clubs League and other mainland tournaments.
