There was terrific excitement at the Isle of Wight Table Tennis Centre, near Ryde, on Sunday when the Isle of Wight beat a strong table tennis team from Plymouth to reach the finals of the English Leagues Cup Competitions.
Lewis Johnstone and Ryan Cates (pictured above), both aged 16, will now play in the Carter Cup finals at West Draycott Table Tennis Centre, Derbyshire on 4th June.
Older Island table tennis folk will remember and reminisce about great past young Island players who reached national finals; namely Lucy Pointer, Carl Prean, Lorna Dutch, Alex Rorke and Danny and Greg Burns.
IoW Table Tennis secretary, Peter Clarke said: “The IoW Table Tennis Association is delighted with this achievement by the boys, especially in our centenary year. Our coaches, led by Glenn Morley, have worked really hard and the boys have responded and attained a high standard. They have great potential if they maintain their interest in the sport.”
