Twins Connor Green and Anna Green won their first Senior National titles with Mixed Doubles at the Mark Bates Ltd National Championships.
The 18-year-olds (pictured above) saw off second seeds Joseph Hunter & Tianer Yu 3-1 (11-5, 8-11, 11-7, 11-4) to lift the title at David Ross Sports Village, just a few miles from their Nottingham home.
Having won plenty of titles through the age groups, this was a first Senior final for Connor, while Anna had previously reached the Women’s Doubles final alongside older sister Erin.
And they largely controlled a match characterised by third-ball attacks to etch their names into the archives.

In the semi-finals, the Greens were always in control of the match against Robert Pelc & Sophie Earley as they won it in three straight (11-6, 11-9, 11-8), while Hunter & Yu ended the hopes of Shayan Siraj & Jasmin Wong, last year’s runners-up, in four (6-11, 11-5, 11-7, 11-5).
Back on day one, top seeds Tom Jarvis & Tin-Tin Ho were sensationally dumped out of the Mixed Doubles in the first round by Pelc & Earley.
From a position of comparative strength at 2-1 up, the top pair saw Pelc & Earley fight back to win 3-2 (4-11, 11-9, 6-11, 11-7, 11-7) to move into the quarter-finals.

That blew the competition wide open, with Josh Bennett the only athlete left in the field to have previously won the competition – alongside Ho in 2019.
Bennett was playing alongside Letitia McMullan this time and they staved off a fightback by Gabriel Achampong & Sienna Jetha before prevailing 3-2 (11-7, 11-5, 8-11, 8-11, 11-5).
There was one other lengthy match, which saw south beat north as Max Radiven & Rachael Iles overcame Ben Piggott & Ella Pashley 3-2 (8-11, 11-2, 12-10, 9-11, 11-7).
Second seeds Hunter & Yu advanced safely in three against Artur Veeck Caltabiano & Erin Green, and it was also 3-0 for Shayan Siraj & Jasmin Wong, last year’s silver medallists beating Adam Dennison & Saskia Key.

The other pairs to advance all went through in four – Connor & Anna Green against Jakub Piwowar & Darcie Proud; Rohan Dani & Mari Baldwin over Nahom Asgedom & Luna Archard and Andrew Baggaley & Rebecca Savage against Isaac Kingham & Mabel Shute.
The quarter-finals saw Pelc & Earley continue their run, and by knocking out Bennett & McMullan they ensured there would be two new names on the trophy come tomorrow afternoon. The score was 3-1 (11-9, 4-11, 11-8, 11-5).

Baggaley is a rare sight in Mixed Doubles and his partnership with Savage looked as if it would bear more fruit when they led Hunter & Yu 2-1. But the second seeds, perhaps sensing an opportunity to nail down the title, came back to win 3-2 (10-12, 13-11, 4-11, 11-9, 11-4).
Siraj & Wong also had to turn around their match against Dani & Baldwin recovering from 2-1 down to win 3-2 (10-12, 11-6, 5-11, 11-8, 11-6).
The Green twins made it through in three (4, 4, 11) against Radiven & Iles.
