Tom Jarvis beat two higher-ranked players to move to within one victory of a place in the main draw at the WTT Contender Zagreb – but was denied by the same player who knocked out Paul Drinkhall.

The England No 3, currently ranked No 193 in the world, defeated Youssef Abdel-Aziz (WR 90) of Egypt in his first match, at the second qualifying round stage.

He then won in three straight against world No 121 Huang Yan-Cheng of Chinese Taipei to get through to the final qualifying round.

He faced Bence Majoros of Hungary (WR 236), who in the second qualifying round defeated Paul Drinkhall in four games.

Jarvis led 2-1, having taken the first and third games, but Majoros hit back to level and then took a 5-0 lead in the decider, going on to take it 11-5 and himself take a spot in the main draw.
