Kacper Piwowar is the WTT Youth Contender Tunis under-13 boys champion after staving off a comeback from his opponent to win the final 3-2.

Piwowar was up against Youssef Aidli of the host nation and led 2-0 after digging in to clinch a close second game.

His opponent stormed back to level but the English player dug in again to take the decider 11-4 and complete a 3-2 (11-6, 13-11, 7-11, 6-11, 11-4) victory to top the podium.

Theo Kniep won his first match in the group stage, and led his third and final match 2-0 before his opponent hit back to win 3-2 and deny Kniep a place in the knockout stage.

In the under-17 boys’ singles, Connor Green reached the semi-finals with two hard-fought 3-2 wins in the previous two rounds, including coming from 2-0 down in the quarters. He was defeated 3-1 in the semi-finals by Milhane Jellouli of France.

Jakub Piwowar reached the quarter-finals of the same event, beating Adlene Jerbi of the host nation 13-11 in a decider in the last 16 before going out 3-1 to Flavio Mourier of France.

Ben Piggott and Toby Ellis also made it through the group stage and were eliminated in the last 16 – Piggott in a deciding game.

The under-11, under-15 and under-19 boys’ events continue today.
