The youngest national champions will be crowned at the Mark Bates Ltd U10-13 Nationals this weekend.

With a sprinkling of players with WTT experience – including multiple medallist Dimitar Dimitrov – plus the chance of new stars emerging, it promises to be a vibrant event at The Brentwood Centre.

There will be boys’ and girls’ singles in all four age groups from U10 to U13, plus boys’ and girls’ doubles at U12 and U13.

The competition is open and any young players within the four age groups who meet the criteria were able to enter and did not have to be invited – and there are no restrictions based on rankings.

Dimitrov will defend his Under-12 Boys’ Singles title, though is no longer eligible for the Under-11s – he will instead aim for a double in the 12s and 13s and is top seed in both.

Of the other champions from last year, U11 Girls’ winner Amber Lemmon steps up as top seed in the Under-12s, while both Under-10 champions – Saisuriya Prasanna Kumar and Cindy Xiao – step up to Under-11 – Xiao as top seed and Prasanna Kumar as third seed behind Jayden Chen and Lusio Wen.

The top seed in the Under-13 Girls’ category is Hannah Saunders, ahead of her Archway Peterborough clubmate Lemmon.

The Saunders & Lemmon Under-12 Girls’ Doubles-winning partnership from last year is broken up, with Lemmon now partnering Xiao in both the U12 and U13 age groups, where they are top seeds in both.

Saunders teams up with Grace Liu for the Under-13s, where Serene Rahmani-Walentynska, who won the title last year with her now-ineligible sister Soraya, now partners Assil Sarri.

Dimitrov & Malek Shamakh are top seeds in the U12 Boys’ Doubles, while Dimitrov & Rishaan Sawant top the U13 seedings, with last year’s Under-12 champions, Sinan Surensoy & Zaid Aldilimi, as second seeds.
