Is it too early to call season’s make or break in the Senior British Club League Premier Division? Possibly. But it’s hard not to look at the coming weekend as having the potential to define campaigns at both ends of the table.

An early title four-pointer will attract the headlines as Brighton host Ormesby, which you can read more about here. But in North Ayrshire and Fusion’s case, their weekends take on extra significance.

The Scottish side is hosting a double-header weekend on the west coast as they look to get their season up and running after a winless beginning to the campaign.

North Ayrshire have been on the wrong end of two whitewashes so far this season, though, for context, they have both been against the competition’s two aforementioned unbeaten sides. This weekend will give them a chance to end their duck, albeit against two other significantly talented teams in BATTS and Fusion.

But it’s hard not to consider this weekend as a big one for the club, not only in terms of the league table but in the sense of hosting two high-quality matches over one weekend. They hope to have a strong crowd to support them in their quest to pick up victories and take them from the foot of the table.

The game against Fusion appears particularly pivotal given they too are without a win so far, and when you consider they take on Scottish counterparts Drumchapel Glasgow in a fortnight, another side still searching for their first win, the importance of this weekend starts to become clearer.

Four players will be in action for the hosts this weekend. Colin Dalgleish, Viktor Gorman (pictured above, photo by Michael Loveder), Chris Main & Gavin Yuan, a rising youngster in Scotland who many have high hopes for.

Inevitably, they face a tough Saturday against BATTS, who were in Scotland earlier this month as they defeated Drumchapel 6-1. This time around they will again call upon Chris Doran, who will be supported by Hoatin Chen and Josh Bennett in what is a very impressive side.

Of course, it’s an equally important week for Fusion, who face a crazy schedule over the weekend. On Saturday they host Drumchapel on home soil in east London and will then fly up to Ayrshire for their Sunday fixture, a trip they hope will be taken with their first league win already under their belts. Taking on two fellow yet-to-win sides in one weekend, this is very much a weekend that could have drastic consequences, for better or for worse.

Meanwhile, Ormesby will have a different look to their team this weekend. The Middesbrough club have made two new signings after being hit by player non-availability.

Enio Mendes is required for ETTU Cup action by his Spanish club, while Ben Piggott is competing at the British Universities & Colleges Sport Championships. Sam Mabey, a mainstay for Ormesby over the years, has announced his retirement from the sport, leaving only David McBeath as a recognised first-teamer who is available to travel to the south coast.

Ormesby have therefore brought in Swiss right-hander Yoan Rebetez and Brazilian-Italian left-hander Humberto Manhani Junior. Rebetez, 27, is well known to McBeath, having featured in the same Texas Smash team which won the Major League Table Tennis title in the USA last season, while Manhani, 35, trains with Mendes in Spain.

As ever, all games across the division are available to watch for free on YouTube.
