November is Men’s Mental Health Awareness Month, and to co-incide with that and Self Care Week (November 13-19), Mind, UK Coaching and Sport England have collaborated to update a key mental health course and offer it at a reduced price.

The Mental Health Awareness for Sport and Physical Activity+ course aims to give those taking it the tools and confidence to support people experiencing mental health problems effectively.

Aimed at anyone who leads sports sessions, the eLearning course will increase your knowledge and understanding of mental health, giving those who take it the practical skills and strategies to be able to:

  • build people’s resilience, self-esteem and confidence
  • adapt your sessions to make them more inclusive
  • enable and support mental health recovery
  • tackle stigma and discrimination

The course has been accessed by more than 40,000 people since 2019 and the newly updated version includes:

  • A reduced price of £10 (previously £12), to help in making the course more affordable for more people
  • Top tips/guidance for anyone delivering physical activity to this group
  • Healthy relationships with sport and physical activity: insight into experiences of when participation can become unhealthy, and guidance on how to spot the signs and offer support
  • Helping people to support themselves: linking to Mind’s new Self-care Library, which pulls together a range of activities to help people to support their own and others’ wellbeing

In addition, the online course is on a new platform which is fully accessible with screen readers and keyboard navigation.

Those who complete the course will be able to download a certificate. The course has been awarded 1.5 CPD points by the Chartered Institute for the Management of Sport and Physical Activity (CIMSPA).
