England finished in 22nd position at the European Under-13 Championships in Romania, with an overall record of four victories and four defeats in the team competition.

England opened against Azerbaijan and, after Ryan Goodier & Hannah Saunders were defeated in the doubles, Villet-Lily Marquis and Pablo Ramirez Rioja won singles matches to put England 2-1 ahead. However, neither Saunders nor Dimitar Dimitrov were able to secure the victory needed to seal the overall result, and England lost 3-2.

They bounced back to beat Estonia by the same scoreline as Saunders, Dimitrov and Marquis all won to give England a 3-1 lead after Ramirez Rioja & Marquis had lost the doubles. Ramirez Rioja was defeated in the final match.

Their final group match against Austria saw Saunders level for England after a doubles defeat for Goodier & Marquis.

The third tie, between Dimitrov and Seung Jin Chen, proved pivotal as Dimitrov was defeated in four close games, 3-1 (12-10, 14-12, 10-12, 11-9). Austria went on to win 4-1 as Marquis and Goodier could not add to England’s score.

The next stage of the team competition saw England face Slovenia, Kosovo and Croatia, and they won the first two for the combined loss of only one match, seeing off Slovenia 4-1 (having taken an unassailable 3-0 lead) and Kosovo 5-0. All five of members of the England squad won at least one singles tie across the two matches, and they won both doubles.

Against Croatia, England went 2-0 down before Dimitrov pulled one back, but Croatia won the crucial fourth game to set up their victory.

England faced Montenegro in the 21-24 bracket and won 3-0, with singles victories for Marquis and Ramirez Rioja after Goodier & Saunders started the match with victory in the doubles.

That left a clash with Italy to decide 21st and 22nd positions, and it was a 3-0 win for Italy.
