Apex will have a target on their backs as a team and as individuals at the Senior British Clubs League Championship weekend two.

The newcomers to the division laid down an impressive marker on weekend one as they won all four fixtures with an overall 29-3 individual match record.

Second-placed Archway Peterborough had the next best record at 19-13 from their three wins, showing the gap to the top in stark statistics.

Not surprisingly, Apex also dominate the averages, occupying the top four places. Johan Barius and Jordan Wykes were unbeaten over eight matches, George Downing won all four of his and Israel Awolaja lost only once in eight.

So the task for the rest of the division is clear – step up and put the leaders under pressure individually and as a unit, or risk seeing them disappear into the distance.

First to attempt to grab Apex by the coattails will be third-placed Fusion II, who have the weaponry at their disposal in Rikuto Morota (pictured above, photo by Michael Loveder), Josh Bruce and last season’s SBCL Player of the Season, Freddy Wilke.

Apex then face two teams in the bottom three, Ormesby II and Joola Plymouth, before finishing their weekend against fifth-placed SpinLab ABZ Finsbury.

An early fixture which may or may not help the chasing pack’s cause sees second-placed Archway take on fourth-placed BATTS II. The latter were smarting from an 8-0 defeat by Apex in the first round of matches, but are unbeaten since with two wins and a draw.

Archway also lost in the first round, to Urban, before winning the next three. They boast the only player who has three Player of the Match accolades to his name – Jiaji Wu.

That win against Archway was Urban’s only victory, and with eight of the 10 teams having won at least once and every team having at least one point on the board, it illustrates the competitive nature of the division.

Whether that extends to anyone taking points off Apex remains to be seen.
