Elmtree Excalibur A (Gary Cattermole and Peter Mynard) were this week’s big winners in the first division of the Central Essex Summer League. They beat Danbury A 5-0 and represented by two different players – Phil Smith and Fred Button they beat OCs A 4-1. Fred Button beat Robbie Burton 10-12, 11-8, 11-9, 4-11, 11-6 in the battle between the two Veteran defenders. Last year’s runners- up Rayne made it three wins out of three by beating Cold Norton 4-1. Kevin Gowlett was undefeated for Rayne whilst Dick Wyman scored a fine 13-11, 17-15, 9-11, 7-11, 11-9 win over Steve Pennell for the losers.

Division two looks evenly matched and the majority of games have finished with 3-2 scorelines.

Elmtree Excalibur B with 10 points from three matches are the half-way leaders. Elmtree Excalibur B had Steve Cheesman to thank as they beat Danbury B 3-2. Cheesman beat both Herbie Smith and Ken Sheard 3-1. Danbury also won 3-2, their victims were ECC A. This time Ken Sheard scored two good wins over Colin Blore and Bryn Thomas. ECC A were also 3-2 winners. Bryn Thomas won both of his singles as they defeated Writtle. Danbury B in turn did well to beat ECC B 4- 1. Ken Sheard made his mark with a fine 11-8, 11-9, 9-11, 6-11, 11-6 win over Ryan Pitt although he missed out 11-13, 8-11, 11-5, 11-7, 9-11 against Richard Storey.

Ramsden Rovers (Neil Freeman and Andy Simmonds) lead the way in division three. They beat South Woodham B 4-1. Andy Simmonds came out on top 11-7, 11-3, 10-12, 12-14, 11-9 against Mark Richardson in the closest game of the evening. OCs C (Frank Hodge and Tom Barker) had few problems beating South Woodham B 5-0 whilst OCs B (David Porter and Mick Hayes) beat Danbury D 4-1. David Porter fought back strongly from 2-0 down to beat Mick Robinson 3-11, 9-11, 11-4, 11- 9, 11-9.

Chelmsford B (Ryan Gooday and Ian Austin) look likely winners in division four. They beat Cold Norton C 5-0 and OCs D 4-1. Ryan Gooday was undefeated in both matches. OCs’ Daniel Berry did well to beat Ian Austin and he ran out a 6-11, 8-11, 11-6, 11-7, 11-4 winner. Cold Norton C beat OCs E 5-0. Roy Gandy and James Anderson raced through their five games without dropping an end. Cold Norton C met their match against OCs D and lost 3-2. Daniel Berry won his two singles for the Old Chelmsfordians team.
