Chelmsford & District: Peverel triumphant in final

Hatfield Peverel have won the 2018-19 Ladies Knock Out Cup final in the Chelmsford & District Table Tennis League.

Julie Johnson and Jan Fuller ran out 3-1 winners against Maldon. Johnson defeated Kelly Yuen 3-0 (11-3, 11-9, 13-11) and Dawn Baldry by the roller-coaster scoreline of 3-2 (3-11, 12-10, 8-11, 12-10, 11-3) to give Hatfield Peverel the ascendancy. The improving Yuen made her mark with a fine 3-0 (11-9, 11-9, 11-9) win over Fuller.

Maldon A impressed this week in the first division of the Central Essex Summer Table Tennis League. They beat second placed Chelmsford B 3-2. Steve Scholz starred with two superb wins. He beat Waseem Qureshi 3-2 (11-9, 8-11, 8-11, 11-8, 11-9) and Cristian Bernado 3-0 (11-5, 11-8, 12-10).

The leaders Chelmsford A moved further ahead by beating OCs B 5-0. Robert Shrimpton (eight wins out of eight) and Wiktor Delimat were both undefeated.  Shrimpton fought back from 2-1 down to beat Peter Windley (11-13, 11-5, 5-11, 11-7, 11-6).

Ramsden A also won 5-0. It was Gary Ward and Peter Barrett who called the shots against Cold Norton A.

Chelmsford C lead the way in division two. This week they won 4-1. Shirish Basant was unbeaten against OCs C whilst Richard Baxter was on target for the losers with a 3-2 (11-9, 11-9, 8-11, 7-11, 11-8) win over Rajeev Mehta.

OCs D edged out Ramsden C 3-2. Good going as it was John Parodi who won twice for Ramsden C. He beat Mick Hayes 3-2 (7-11, 11-3, 11-8, 9-11, 11-8).

OCs D also beat Ramsden Bellhouse A 3-2. Paul Sturton won twice for Ramsden Bellhouse, powering home 11-5, 11-2, 11-6 against Mick Hayes and 11-7, 11-5, 11-4 against Tom Barker.

Ramsden Bellhouse A did better against Ramsden B and this time they won 3-2. Sturton was again undefeated with impressive wins against Trevor Collin (12-10, 11-7, 7-11, 12-10) and Neil Freeman (11-3, 11-7, 11-9).

Danbury D made it four wins out of five in division three. They edged home 3-2 against Cold Norton B after David Gatheral had remained undefeated. Roy Gandy beat Sam Mortimer-Fod 3-2 (11-8, 9-11, 7-11, 11-19, 12-10) in the closest game of the night.

Chelmsford D also won 3-2. Dave Parker and Gordon Fairchild each won once to counter the two wins that Kevin Smart picked up for Ramsden D. Smart beat Gordon Fairchild 3-2 (11-4, 11-4, 10-12, 2-11, 11-8) in the pick of the night’s matches.

In yet another match which was decided 3-2 Danbury B defeated Chelmsford E. Ken Sheard won twice for the Danbury team. Vineeth Kamma had to pull out all the stops to get the better of John Robinson 3-2 (4-11, 11-8, 11-8, 8-11, 13-11).

Galleywood B lead division four. They could only field Andy Hanlon against OCs E and they will be pleased that Hanlon won twice, beating Steve Pratt 3-0 (11-9, 11-4, 11-7) and David Newman 3-1 (11-13, 11-7, 11-8, 11-8).

Second placed OCs F led B by the unbeaten Mick Richardson ran out 3-2 winners against Ramsden Bellhouse B. Richardson was tested by Kevin Willis but he prevailed 3-0 (13-11, 13-11, 11-5).

Second placed Blackwater were brought down to earth in division five when they lost 5-0 to Chelmsford H. Craig Studley and Rajesh Dewan carried all before them. They completed proceedings with a widely fluctuating 3-2 (11-2, 11-7, 1-11, 12-14, 11-8) doubles win over Phil West and Kath Little.

Chelmsford Rhinos and Chelmsford Cougars are tied on 18 points from five matches in division six. The Cougars (James Donald and Sudheep Kamma) beat Chelmsford Leopards 5-0 this week whilst Rhinos defeated Ramsden Belhouse D  4-1. Josh Bickles won twice for Rhinos and Ben Chivers once. Harry Hutt beat Chivers 3-0 (11-7, 11 -2, 16-14).

Chelmsford Leopards edged out Chelmsford Jaguars 3-2. All four players won once – Cleon Fernandes and Al Lane were on target for the Leopards whilst Annabel Sweeney and Melinda Abraham Victor both won once for the Jaguars. Ben Porter led Danbury E to a 3-2 win over Chelmsford Cougars. He beat Sudheep Kamma (11-5, 11-4, 11-9) and Harry Chivers (11-3, 11-9, 11-6).

Chelmsford Falcons are setting a red-hot pace in division seven. James Killeen and Oliver Cheung were both undefeated as they overcame Chelmsford Wolves 5-0. 24 points out of 25 tells its own story.

Ramsden Bellhouse F won twice to move into third place. They beat Chelmsford Wolves 3-2 courtesy of two singles wins for Aidan Tucker and they also beat Chelmsford Eagles 4-1. George Hagland was undefeated whilst Charlie Donald edged out Ryan Beresford-Cole 11-3, 7-11, 11-2, 7-11, 12-10 over five pulsating ends.

Chelmsford Tigers (Affan Hadi and Rayyan Hadi) ran out 3-2 winners against Chelmsford Wildcats although they both missed out against Alesha Ellis-Austin. Affan Hadi saw of Emilie Guilloux 3-2 (13-11, 5-11, 5-11, 15-13, 11-7) after a real tussle.
