Andrew Halling and Chris Buer lead Hatfield Peverel B to impressive 9-1 victory

Third-placed Hatfield Peverel B were the big winners in Division Two this week in the Chelmsford & District Table Tennis League. Andrew Halling and Chris Buer were both on top form as they ran out 9-1 winners against fourth-placed Chelmsford B.

Steve Buer picked up two wins and this included a 14-12, 11-5, 9-11, 9-11, 12-10 victory over Mike Johnston. Leaders Elmtree Excalibur B also beat Chelmsford B 8-2 with John Holland and Peter Mynard both picking up their three singles. Julie Vansertima impressed for Chelmsford and she scored an excellent 8-11, 11-5, 12-10, 10-12, 13-11 victory over Gary Cattermole. In a match where no single player remained undefeated Writtle B beat Chelmsford C 6-4. Writtle’s Trevor Carter and Hector Rogers and Chelmsford’s Ryan Pitt all picked up two victories. Writtle’s Brian Cook won once, a fine 6-11, 12-10, 11-8, 9-11, 11-8 success against Robert Shrimpton.

Liberal recorded their fourth draw of the Season. They fought back from 3-0 down to share the points with Chelmsford B. Robin Armstrong picked up his second win of the evening and his 11-9, 7-11, 7-11, 11-6, 11-9 victory over Mike Johnston in the last game earned his side a 50-50 share of the points.

Danbury A’s Michael Andrews, Eric Green and Antony Greenwood all won twice as they beat Elmtree Excaibur 7-3 in the first division. However, none of the Danbury players were able to get the better of the impressive Gary Young. His excellent hat-trick of wins included a 11-5, 12-10, 7-11, 11-9 win over 2011 Colchester Mens Singles Champion Antony Greenwood.

In Division Three, runaway leaders Danbury B made it 12 wins out of 12 as they beat fourth-placed Rawreth 6-4. Glen Laing led the way with three wins whilst Mike Worship and Paul Churn both won twice for the Southend-based side. Danbury C’s impressive form continued and this week they beat both OCs D and Chelmsford D 7-3.

Dave Richardson won his three singles against OCs D and he received good support from Ivan Chaplin, who won twice. Danbury’s Mo Hardy picked up a solitary success, a hard-fought 6-11, 11-6, 9-11, 11-5, 14-12 victory against David Porter. Richardson missed the game against Chelmsford D but Ken Sheard filled the breach admirably. He won his three singles and he completed his hat-trick with a 11-13, 5-11, 11-4, 11-9, 11-9 victory against Keith Martin.

Elsewhere, Danbury E had Graham Briggs and Lee McHugh undefeated as they beat OCs D 8-2. It was a night Danbury‘s Dave Hancox won’t have enjoyed too much. He missed out against Mick Hayes  11-7, 11-8, 4-11, 10-12, 13-15 and if that wasn’t bad enough he also lost to David Porter 7-11, 11-9, 8-11, 13-11, 9-11.

The match between Danbury G and EPHQ went to form in Division Four with Danbury winning 7-3. Dave Goody won his three singles and Dave Powell won twice whilst Calvin Wright picked up two wins for EPHQ.

In Division Five OCs H did well to beat the higher-placed Highwood 6-4. Daniel Berry (two wins), Charlie Mariner (two wins) and Shane Bliss (one win) combined to counter Martin Goddard’s hat-trick. The opening game of the evening was the best of the night with Martin Goddard getting the better of Charlie Mariner 6-11, 11-7, 11-5, 7-11, 11-9.

Second-placed OCs J beat Chelmsford K 4-1 in the CLICK League. Harvey Russell led the way with wins over both Calum Webster and Callum Day whilst Steve Turner beat Callum Day. Calum Webster got the better of Steve Turner 12-10, 5-11, 8-11, 11-8, 12-10 in the closest game of the night.
