Keiran Lally – top class performance against Maldon A

2013 Colchester Mens’ Singles Champion Keiran Lally turned in the top performance of the week in the first division of the Chelmsford & District Table Tennis League and his trio of wins for Maldon B against their club-mates Maldon A included a superb 3-1 (8-11, 11-8, 11-9, 11-8) win over Alex Abbott  – the first defeat for Alex this season.

With Ben Warner beating Paul Sayer in five games Maldon B ran out 6-4 winners. They top the table with 68 points.  ECC A have moved into second place by beating OCs A 7-3. OCs paid the price for being a player short against the ECC side and although Terry Dowsett beat both Steve Kerns (3-1) and Peter Lau (3-2) ECC were always ahead in this match. Mark Mulley was undefeated for the ECC team.

Liberal recorded their fourth win of the season in Division Two – a comprehensive 9-1 victory over Danbury E. Robin Armstrong, Steve Pennell and Dean Andrews won all nine singles. Waseem Qureshi was undefeated for Chelmsford A in their 7-3 success against their B side. Ryan Pitt won twice for the B team and this included a hard-fought 3-2 (10-12, 12-10, 14-12, 6-11, 11-7) victory over Mike Johnston.

OCs B made it 11 wins out of 11 in Division Three by beating Danbury H 8-2. Steve Northcott was undefeated for the OCs side whilst Dave Marsh picked up two wins for the Danbury team.

Elsewhere, Herbie Smith recorded a hat-trick of wins as Danbury F drew 5-5 with Chelmsford C and Peter Layzell won his three singles as ECC C shared the points with OCs C. Layzell’s win over David Porter could scarcely have been closer. Scores of 3-2 (15-13, 13-11, 8-11, 10-12, 17-15) tell their own story.

In Division Four ECC F impressed by drawing with the higher-placed OCs D. Allison Millard won her three singles for the County Council the hard way. She beat Adrian North, Charlie Yeung and Stuart Wintle each time over five hard-fought ends. She completed her hat-trick with a narrow 3-2 (13-11, 13-11, 7-11, 10-12, 11-8) victory over Wintle.
