Cheshire Schools: Winners book Zone Final places

The Cheshire Schools Table Tennis Team Event, covering Cheshire West & Chester, Cheshire East, Halton and Warrington, was held on Tuesday 9th November at the Halton Table Tennis Centre.

This was the first event back at the TT Centre as it had been used as a Vaccination Centre and then had ceiling and lighting refurbished as part of decarbonising of the DCBL Halton Stadium in Widnes. Due to Covid-19 schools this year could only enter one team per event.

Under-11 Primary Schools Boys’ and Girls’ events had new champions. Farnworth C of E Primary, Widnes won the U11 Boys’ Team with Zane O’Neill, Alexandros Kalampokis, George Headon and Alex Evens in the squad. St Michael’s Catholic Primary were runners-up (Rowan Cooke, Jenson Gamble, Oliver Fanning and Oscar Pybus).

St Michael’s Catholic Primary, Widnes won the U11 Girls with Chantelle Leather, Maisie Forbes, D’Arcy Horabin and Zofia Atras. Farnworth C of E Primary were runners-up (Zara Hughes, Daisy Byrne, Arianna Moore and Sophie Steele).

The Under-13 Boys’ team event was won by Wade Deacon with Sam Davies, Billy Rowlands, Alfie Flanagan Bate and George Flanagan Bate in a very tight match 5-3 in the decider against County High School Leftwich with (Conan Lee, Fred White, Stacey Scott and Ollie Curry).

The Wade Deacon Under-13 Girls’ team of Tilly Macaulay, Deanna Tonney, Amelia Williams and Abigail Corker lost 3-5 in the final to the Tytherington School team of Jess Snape, Evie Eyes, Libby Street and Lucia Dawson.

The Boys’ Under-16s saw Sandbach Boys’ School team of Elliott Goodchild, Mark McWilliam, Mentor Wong and Josh Hough beat SS Peter and Paul, Widnes’ team of James Bowman, Luke Houghton, Reece Robinson and Alfie Loughton.

In the Girls’ Under-16s, Wade Deacon (Jessica Morris, Anna Hartley, Rachel Lane, Edie McGuiness) beat SS Peter and Paul, Widnes (Milly Hanrahan, Eleanor Davis, Georgia Adams and Evie Kinsella).

The Boys’ Under-19s was won by Cronton Sixth Form College with Liam Murphy, Freddie Carroll, Joe Davies and Rowan Craske with Sir John Deane’s finishing runners-up with a team of Gwilym Morgan, Adrian Wong, Liam Aylott and Jake Lewis.

In the Girls’ U19s, Cronton Sixth Form College, Widnes team of Niamh Scarborough, Chloe Allen and India Odley received a walkover.

The winning team in each age group now goes forward to represent Cheshire Schools at the Regional Zone Finals at Blackburn on 15th-16th January at St Bedes’s RC High School, Blackburn.

The Saturday has the Boys’ U19, U16 and U13s events, starting at 10am, while the Sunday sees the Boys’ U11 and all Girls’ events, also starting at 10 am.

The Zone Final winners and runners-up go forward to the Regional Finals in February. Regional Winners play in the National Finals at Aldersley Wolverhampton on Sunday 3rd April.

The individual Cheshire Schools will take place in February 2022 at Halton TT Centre.
