Surprise Ocelots set early pace

Nomads Ocelots are the surprise early pace-setters in Division Two of the Clacton and District League following their second 8-2 win of the season, this time against the fancied Brotherhood C.

Peter Giles and John Hockley were unbeaten for the Ocelots, Hockley’s three including a 3-2 (11-6, 2-11, 10-12, 14-12, 11-9) win over Kevin Pryor whilst Giles and Daryl Lott took the doubles 3-2 (11-13, 11-8, 12-10, 7-11, 14-12) against Pryor and Torr.

Lawford were 8-2 winners against Brotherhood F, Paul Hewitt and Richard Spence unbeaten. Elliott Attrill took a point for the losers by beating Ian Sherwood and another in the doubles, he and Barry Allen defeating Hewitt and Sherwood 11-8 in the fifth.

Windsor Kestrels left it late but won the final two matches of the evening to scrape a draw against Windsor Ravens. Graham Bunce, who remained unbeaten on the night, defeated John Harvey in five before Bob Sawyer pipped Gary Stallwood 11-8 in the decider to earn a share of the spoils for the Kestrels. Both Sawyer for the Kestrels and Harvey for Ravens picked up two wins.

Brotherhood J’s Gracie Edwards had to concede two matches through injury which left Nomads Tigers 7-3 victors. Darren Bunce and Tony Beezer of the Tigers were undefeated whilst Brotherhood’s Kelvin Olano and Tom Wilkin enjoyed an 11-6 in the decider doubles win over Beezer and Caroline North.

Brotherhood E maintained their perfect start in Division Three defeating Nomads Wildcats 10-0 without dropping a set.

Morgan Harvey produced a top-class performance, staying unbeaten in Brotherhood L’s drawn match with Nomads Pumas, for whom John Bowers and Alan Dockerill each won twice.

Gerald Batt took his three as Brotherhood H chalked up an 8-2 victory over Nomads Leopards, four of their points coming from the four matches that went to a decider. Brian Baines beat Norman Jacobs 11-6 in the fifth and Harry Beezer 11-8 in the fifth.

Pete Bloomfield was another player to record a maximum as Brotherhood G edged out Nomads Lynx 6-4. Lee Allen won twice for the winners and, with Mark Trayhorn, took a crucial doubles, 11-5 in the decider, against Pete Miller and Brian Friday. Kevin Hume won twice for the Lynx.

The Penguins were 9-1 victors in the all-Windsor clash with the Kites, Ray Chillingworth and Jackie Bunce recording hat-tricks for the Penguins, Carl Hubbard winning the Kites’ consolation point.

In Division One champions Nomads Panthers fielded a reserve against Brotherhood B but hat-tricks from Gill Locke and Colin Webber were enough to give them a 7-3 victory.

Windsor Condors began their programme with an 8-2 success against Walton C, John Pattrick and Colin Stallwood both undefeated.

Nomads Lions were comfortable 9-1 victors against Brotherhood D, John Fenton and John Hatley unbeaten, with Lee Harvey’s 12-10 in the decider victory over John Weller the only win for Brotherhood.

Walton A made it eighteen points out of a possible twenty when they beat club-mates Walton B 8-2, John Rice taking his maximum. The ‘B’ team’s Mike Tracey enjoyed an 11-8 in the fifth victory over Peter Burrows.

But Brotherhood A’s woes continue, losing 8-2 to Walton D. Kevin Gowlett took three, and Kevin James and Paul Woolnough two each for Walton. Alan Burgess took the two points for Brotherhood.
