Day Eight – Pitchford Marches On

In the boys singles Liam Pitchford dispatched Ondrej Bajger of Czech Republic in four straight sets to put him into the last 16. Liam now plays his doubles partner Leonardo Mutti of Italy for a place in the last 8.

In the boys doubles event Sam Walker and Lewis Gray progressed to the last 16 with a 3 – 1 win over Jezo and Pavolka of  Slovakia. They now face Michal Korycki and Lukasz Nadolski of Poland.

The draw conspired to place the Cadet Boys in opposition to each other in the Cadet Boys Doubles and it was Jared Patel with his Croatian partner Nikola Horvat who prevailed but No 1 seeds Adam Szudi and Gergely Sabjan of Hungary were too strong in the next round winning in 5 games.

Jared Patel will have been sick of the sight of Adam Szudi as the Hungarian No 1 seed was his opponent in the Cadet Singles as well and the Hungarian came through in 5 games.

Tin-Tin Ho progressed to the last 32 of the Cadet Girls Singles but she found Nina Mittlehem of Germany too strong losing in 5 games. In the same round Megan Knowles faced Natalia Bajor of Poland who took the match in 4 straight games.

In the Junior Boys singles Sean Cullen went down to Tamás Lakatos of Hungary in 5 games leaving Liam Pitchford as our sole singles competitor.
