Liam Pitchford went out in the last 16 of the China Open to world No 4 Tomokazu Harimoto today.

The English No 1 had comfortably beaten the Japanese teenager twice last year but today was a different story as Harimoto kept control.

All four games were close but Harimoto was in charge at the business end of all of them as he won 4-0 (11-8, 11-9, 11-8, 11-8). He now faces Wong Chun Ting of Hong Kong in the quarter-finals in Shenzhen.

Pitchford, who was seeded 15th in China, now goes on to the Hong Kong Open, where he will be the 10th seed. Sam Walker and Paul Drinkhall will also be on duty at the event, which starts on Tuesday.
