Pitchford sets up Harimoto tie

Liam Pitchford set up a tie with teenage star Tomokazu Harimoto as he swept into the last 16 of the China Open with a 4-0 win over Zhou Qihao today.

Pitchford, seeded 15 for the ITTF World Tour event in Shenzhen, came through on his second match point against the world No 63, from the host nation, as he won 11-7, 11-7, 12-10, 12-10.

Pitchford’s opponent in the last 16 is Japanese teenage star Tomokazu Harimoto, the world No 4. Pitchford has twice convincingly beaten Harimoto, at the Team World Cup in London and at the World Championships in Sweden, both last year.
