Two returning champions will spearhead Joola Plymouth’s bid to make a winning start to the Women’s British League season when the competition returns to Wolverhampton at the weekend.

Yolanda King and Rachel Trevorrow are in the line-up, having both played key roles in the YHL and UoN team which won the Premier Division title last season.

The team has reverted to the name of parent club Joola Plymouth and also includes Lois Peake and Evie Collier in a strong-looking line-up.

The WBL weekend includes a Level 1 Umpire course – which could set you on the road to umpiring at the 2022 Commonwealth Games in Birmingham. Click here for more details or to enrol.

With some other talented teams in the division, Joola Plymouth may not have things all their own way, however, and Colebridge and Fusion could be the nearest contenders.

The former have three talented young players – Cadet national champion Mari Baldwin, Katie Holt and Amy Marriott – under the guidance of playing captain Kate Hughes. Meanwhile, Fusion include Elena Todirca, Danielle Kelly and Tiana Dennison in their squad.

Not that the other teams can be discounted – Draycott finished third last time and can still call upon Inta Zdanovska to lead the team, ahead of Sarah Short, Sara Williams and teenager Bhavika Mistry.

Knighton Park and Glenburn Irish Ladies are the two teams promoted into the top flight.

Leicester club KP will rely on a blend of youth and experience, with England Junior Anaya Patel supplementing Karen Smith, Lesley Keast and Rose Rainton in the ranks, while Glenburn include Rebecca Finn, Erin Thompson and Nicole Scott.

The action, in six divisions in total, will play out at Aldersley Leisure Village in Wolverhampton over the weekend.
