Talented players from schools across London will be converging on the University of East London on Saturday to compete in the fourth Jack Petchey Foundation London Schools’ Individual Finals.

More than 90 boys and girls from dozens of schools across the capital will show off their skills in the quest for victory at Under-11, Under-13, Under-16 and Under-19 levels.

It is the culmination of a London-wide contest which has seen more than 400 students compete in school competitions and regional finals, with the cream of the crop advancing to the finals.

It promises to be a fantastic day of competition, with eight titles up for grabs at the university’s SportsDock facility.

The competition is just one facet of the Jack Petchey Foundation’s support for table tennis – which also encompasses increasing participation opportunities via the donation of table tennis tables to schools and developing and supporting the Jack Petchey Table Tennis Academies.

Nearly 400 table tennis tables have been donated to London schools in the three years of the project so far – with a further 200 indoor tables and 20 outdoor tables set to be given to secondary schools in London and Essex this summer.

Table Tennis England’s Head of Development, Emily St John, said: “We’re thrilled that our partnership with the Jack Petchey Foundation has given thousands of students across London the chance to play our fantastic sport, through table donations and competitions.

“Playing sport not only helps these young people to develop their skills but also to improve their confidence and self-esteem.

“We’re so grateful for the huge support of the Foundation and delighted to work with them on projects which have such a positive impact on young people.”
