Luke Savill and Alex Ramsden made it through the group stage at the Czech Youth Open today, but Kate Cheer and Emily Bolton went out.

Ramsden and Savill both won two of their three Junior Boys’ Singles group matches in Hodonin – and Savill only missed out on a full house when he lost a deciding game 15-13 in his final match.

Both boys went through to the main draw to join team-mate Tom Jarvis, who is seeded No 14. And Ramsden won his match in the round of 128, coming from 3-2 down to defeat host nation player Patrik Klos. Jarvis and Savill received byes into the last 64.

However, all three boys were knocked out in the first round of the doubles – Jarvis and Savill by Israeli opponents and Ramsden and Ireland’s Owen Cathcart by a Hungarian pair.

Bolton managed one win in her three Junior Girls’ Singles matches, while Cheer, in a group of three, twice fought back to level before losing the decider in her second match.

Tin-Tin Ho is seeded No 6 and therefore went straight through to the knockout stage.

Cheer & Finland’s Annika Lundstrom won their first match in the Girls’ Doubles to join Ho & Bolton in the last 32, but both pairs were defeated at that stage. The Juniors are also playing in the team events, which begin on Friday.

Ethan Walsh and James Smith will begin their Cadet Boys’ Singles and Doubles campaigns at the weekend.
