TT Kidz is officially up and running after a launch event to co-incide with National #TableTennisDay.

Chester Park Junior School in Bristol was the setting as 60 Year 5 pupils were given a fun introduction to the programme, taking part in a circuit of TT Kidz skills.

Commonwealth Games medallist Maria Tsaptsinos and England Junior Louis Price, who comes from the city, provided the inspiration factor, alongside Under-10 national champion Kacper Piwowar. Maria and Louis put on a demonstration of their skills and also took part in a Q&A session.

TT Kidz is an eight-week programme developed by Table Tennis England to get more young people active and provide youngsters with an inspiring, engaging and fun first experience in the game.

Children will learn all the basic skills necessary to enjoy a great game of table tennis, as well as all the benefits that an active life brings, including fitness, hand/eye coordination, building social relationships and generally having a great time!

Greg Yarnall, Head of Development and Volunteering at Table Tennis England said: “It was fantastic to see the youngsters being inspired by the session and by their interaction with Maria, Louis and Kacper. Hopefully many of them will go on to take part in the TT Kidz programme in Bristol.

“TT Kidz has been put together in close consultation with specialist coaches to ensure the children have a positive, and above all, fun experience, while learning new skills.

“We hope it will encourage them to join their local table tennis club and to keep a table tennis habit long into the future. I’m sure all the children who sign up will have a fantastic time.”

The eight-week programme is great value and includes a kitbag containing bat, balls, T-shirt and activity book for the players to keep.

There are 29 programmes in place in table tennis clubs, with more to follow. Table Tennis England is also working with Premier Education Group to deliver TT Kidz sessions in schools.

The sessions will start in the autumn and places are limited and expected to fill up fast. More information can be found at www.ttkidz.co.uk
