The Senior 6 Nations, hosted by Table Tennis Ireland in Lisburn, saw Karina le Fevre beat Charlotte Carey of Wales in the final to take the Women’s Singles title.

On the way, Karina won against Rebecca Finn (IRE) 3-1 (2, 7, -10, 4) and Megan Phillips (WALES) 3-1 (-14, 3, 7, 4).  The final was a close fought battle with Karina winning the first two games, Charlotte fighting back to make it 2-all and then Karina winning in the last game 9-11 to take the title.

Lois Peake was unlucky to  lose to Megan Philips (Wales) in the  quarter finals (10, -14, 6, 13), however in the Women’s team event Karina and Lois won all 4 games to finish at the top of their table.  They beat Wales 3-2, Scotland 3-0, Ireland 3-0 and Guernsey 3-2 to take the Women’s team title.

The men were less successful, although both Alex Ramsden and Helshan Weerasinghe reached the semi-finals, both were beaten – by Craig Howieson (Scotland) and Gavin Rumgay (Scotland) respectively.  Rumgay went on to win the title.

In the Men’s team event, England beat Wales 3-0, Jersey 3-0, and Guernsey 3-0 but lost to Scotland 1-3, Ireland 2-3 and finished 3rd in the table.

Simon Mills, Head of Performance commented “Some great performances from the ladies team, delivering both the team and singles titles.  Close wins over Wales and Guernsey, with the doubles matches vital in both wins, were the key to retaining the title. Karina’s win in the singles with victory over Charlotte Carey was probably her best career win and good indications of the progress she is making.

The boys were a young team and both earning their first senior caps. To be third team and both reach the semi-final in the singles was fantastic.

All players can now build on this at the Commonwealth Championships next month.”
