The division two match between Writtle B and Danbury C was a good one in the Chelmsford & District Table Tennis League and it finished tied at 5-5.

Hatfield Peverel F also drew 5-5 with Maldon E. This time Abaryan and Bob Hillis both won twice for Maldon although all three Hatfield Peverel players missed out against Colchester League stalwart Roger Warren. In a nail-biting last game of the evening Warren beat Gary Simmons 3-2 (13-11, 11-13, 11-2, 12-14, 11-9) to complete his trio of wins.

Chelmsford Pumas ran out 4-1 winners against Chelmsford Jaguars to consolidate second place in division 1A of the Chelmsford Junior League.  Joachin Mapes and Saul Chivers won all four singles but they missed out 3-0 (6-11, 4-11, 9-11) in the doubles against Annabel Sweeney and Melinda Abraham Victor.

The Handicap Knock Out Cup has also kicked off with games being played on the best of three up to 21 points basis. OCs H emerged as 5-4 winners over Chelmsford K although all nine games were decided 2-0. Robert Boultwood (playing off a handicap of 0) won his three singles for OCs in commanding fashion and it is clear that when he is integrated into the League his handicap will be adjusted.

Chelmsford H – Victor Chan (65), James Donald (44) and Andy Swales (41) ran out 5-3 winners against Chelmsford G. Jason Clark (45) beat James Donald 2-1 (21-15, 20-22, 21-17) in the closest game of the night.

Chelmsford E, led by rapidly improving Junior Harry Buckle (42), ran out 5-3 winners over Writtle E. Buckle looked to be far too strong for his handicap and he clinched the win for his side with a 21-16, 21-11 win over Malcolm Storey (51).  Another fast improving Junior Sudheep Kamma (28) was also undefeated and he also raced through his two singles. Again a case of the players’ handicaps having to be reassessed.

Writtle C (John Parodi (59) / John Gagg (59)/ Gary Ward (71)) have done well in this competition in the past. This year they fell at the first hurdle (5-1) to Buttsbury.
