It was an early morning rise at 4.30am to be at Media City Salford Quays for an extravaganza of Sporting Activity to celebrate the Olympics and to promote the BBC Get Inspired programme.

There were lots of different activities taking place on the plaza from judo, gymnastics, fencing, weighlifting, tennis, badminton, cycling, golf, dodgeball and table tennis. Representation was from the local clubs and young local talent who came down to help with the morning event. Table Tennis was represented by Amirul Hussain, Lancashire Mens Singles Champion and the current National U13 Champion, Amirul’s dad Khamal, Kin Chan from Altrincham and David Hulme from Stockport Table Tennis Academy.

It was hoped that Table Tennis would actually feature on BBC breakfast 6am-9pm, with the TV crew coming over to our table every 30 mins telling us that we would be the next sport to be featured. At about 8.50am, we were then asked to relocate our table closer to the studios, so that Louise Mitchin and Charlie Stayt could round up the morning programme with playing a game of table tennis. This they did with both Charlie and Louise playing against Kin and Amirul. It was a great experience for everyone and both Charlie and Louise were fantastic on the day at having a go at the table tennis and engaging with everyone who was there. They were both very appreciative of everybody turning up at such an early hour to showcase their sports.
