Profiles of Table Tennis England’s Board of Directors
The Table Tennis England Board
With the exception of the Chief Executive, Directors are voluntary, are elected or appointed for four-year terms and may serve two terms of office.
We will adopt a target of, and take all appropriate actions to encourage, a minimum of 30% of each gender on our Board; and will demonstrate a strong and public commitment to progressing towards achieving gender parity and greater diversity generally on our Board, including, but not limited to people from Ethnically Diverse Communities and with a Disability.
We will advertise proactively appropriate Board vacancies in a wide-ranging and targeted manner ensuring that the vacancies reach the widest demographics attracting those from all backgrounds with the appropriate skills.

Chair
Nick Donald
Appointed: 1 November 2023
Nick is a chartered accountant, he spent nearly 30 years in a customer facing role with the HSBC Group. As head of UK Equity Capital Markets, he provided corporate finance advice to many of the UK’s leading companies, enabling them to raise capital. He has worked across the globe, with significant experience in Europe, Asia and the Middle East.
Nick has been involved in sport all his life, as a player, a volunteer and as a parent. He is a former non-executive director of Leicester Tigers Rugby Club and spent six years as the Senior Independent Director of England Squash. He is currently an independent director of British Canoeing, where he is Chair of the Finance Committee, and is also chair of a community cricket club.
Chief Executive
Sally Lockyer
Sally joined us in December 2024, having previously been CEO of Surrey FA. She has previously held senior roles at the British Athletes Commission, Commonwealth Games and numerous World Championship events. She has also worked with the Champions League, Juventus, AC Milan and Fulham Football Clubs alongside global sports brands such as Nike, Kappa and Lotto.
Sally also served as an Independent Non-Executive Director at Triathlon England from 2013 to 2022 where she was a long-standing member of the organisation’s strategy working group. Additionally she was a Sported Business Mentor, providing business support to community sports organisations to help them reach and improve the lives of disadvantaged young people.
Directors
Kwadjo Adjepong
Appointed: June 2021
Kwadjo is a qualified lawyer with considerable experience in leading investigations and enforcement cases at courts and tribunals.
He has worked at a number of organisations including the Competition and Markets Authority, the Serious Fraud Office, the Financial Conduct Authority, the Financial Reporting Council and Goldman Sachs International, where he was an Executive Director.
Kwadjo has been appointed to a number of sports organisations, including the Court of Arbitration for Sport, UK Sport, the LTA, the Premier League and the FA. Kwadjo is passionate about diversity and inclusion. In addition, he is a former athlete and is an enthusiastic tennis and table tennis player.
Richard Ayers
Appointed: June 2022 (Senior Independent Director)
Richard founded leading European sports digital marketing agency Seven League in 2012 and is seen as one of the leading thinkers in digital sports marketing, media and fan engagement.
Now that Seven League is part of IMG, he Chairs the company.
In 2019 he founded a new business, Rematch, delivering live immersive experiences that take you back in time to re-imagined iconic sporting moments and won awards with its debut show, Wimbledon Rematch 1980.
He also chairs the UK Government’s Sports Business group, and is a special advisor to the Centre for Sport and Human Rights.
Originally a BBC journalist who launched BBC News online in 1997, Richard has spent most of his career in media. His first sports business role was as Manchester City’s first Head of Digital in 2011-13.
Beyond digital and business, he plays a wide variety of sports enthusiastically but badly, including table tennis at Clissold and Highbury table tennis clubs.
Mark Boote
Appointed: July 2023
Mark has more than 25 years of global experience across different types of organisations and a variety of industries.
His finance career started back in the 1990s in the magazine industry, working across well-known titles such as Marie Claire, NME and Loaded.
Fast forward through Marriott Vacation Club, Video Games & Esports, Casinos, Technology, FinTech, and Sport – where he has been Finance Director for Badminton England and, more recently, Pentathlon GB.
He brings best practice from a variety of sectors and disciplines with strong transformation, finance, project, commercial and operational expertise.Outside the office, Mark has three children and two dogs, enjoys travelling, and is an avid fan of Coventry City FC.
Kath Curran
Appointed: March 2024
Kath is currently Head of Marketing at Manchester City Women’s Football Club.
She has worked for City Football Group for the last five years and has led business units implementing interesting and innovative projects and technologies across the group’s global footprint.
She has an MA in Leadership in Sport, from the Institute of Sports Humanities. Kath plays competitive hockey and is also a keen tennis and netball player.
Sally Hughes
Elected: June 2023 (Welfare and Safety Lead)
Born and raised in Sussex, Sally has played table tennis since she was 8, represented Sussex since she was 11 and played abroad since she was 14, including winning silver in the Six Nations for England.
Having played in several local leagues, including Worthing, Brighton, Crawley and Haywards Heath, as well as Senior and Women’s British League, national tournaments and the Grand Prix circuit, Sally has a wealth of experience as a player.
Professionally, Sally leads the Data and Planning department for Bupa Global with staff worldwide to enable data-driven decision making in the international private medical insurance market. She has a background in finance and a keen eye for long-term sustainable business growth.
Known for launching the new Women and Girls tournament circuit, Sally has driven accessibility and inclusion for female players within table tennis.
Ray James
Appointed: June 2021
Ray is currently Chief Operating Officer of iSportconnect, the world’s largest private sports business network.
iSportconnect has more than 25,000 professional members and provides consultancy services to partners such as LaLiga, Tata Communications and a number of other clients.
Previously, Ray has held senior management positions at Sky Sports, Chelsea Football Club, Millwall FC and Manchester City Football Club.
Based in Sussex, Ray has played table tennis for more than 30 years. He has played in several local leagues, including Brighton, Crawley and Haywards Heath, as well as National League, national tournaments and English Open qualifiers.
Jos Kelly
Elected: November 2022
Jos has a successful background in the corporate world with world class companies including Xerox, Kodak and Konica Minolta.
He steadily climbed the ranks through a variety of interesting roles encompassing sales, technical specialisms and various managerial roles until being elevated to board level with responsibility for operations in excess of £100 million.
In recent years Jos has had his own business consultancy. This has seen him supporting companies of varying sizes, providing start-up services to aspiring entrepreneurs, and also working with charities and not-for-profits all with a universal objective to become better organisations.
Jos’ involvement in the administrative side of table tennis developed through local league to the county association, organising county and schools’ competitions, county General Secretary, National Councillor, member of the Select Committee and Chair of the South West Region. He co-founded the Somerset Sabres Table Tennis Club out of a local school and helped it grow, fielding teams in local league, to British League, right through to the European Trophy competition.
He is also an enthusiastic TT parent which has regularly taken him to the whole gamut of competitions all over the country for much of the last decade.
Don Parker
Elected: June 2020 (UK Anti-Doping Lead)
Don represented England in table tennis more than 200 times and went on to work at Commonwealth Games England as Sports Director.
In the 21 years in the role between 1997 and 2018, Don played an active role in six Commonwealth Games and six Commonwealth Youth Games.
Don was also the national coach for the then English Table Tennis Association, and worked within the governing body for 18 years in a variety of performance-related positions.
Don and his wife Jill – the Table Tennis England President – are well known by our members, attending numerous events around the country. Don is also an authoritative TV commentator and has commentated from a raft of international events as well as our own Senior National Championships.
He served with distinction as the European representative on the Commonwealth Games Federation Sports Committee, and was recognised for his outstanding service to sport by being awarded the Commonwealth Sport Order of Merit 2019.
Ritchie Venner
Elected: May 2021
Ritchie was born into a table tennis family and has played since an early age under the coaching and guidance of his late father, Harry Venner, a former England international and a renowned coach.
Ritchie has played continuously for more than 40 years in local leagues, county events, British league and tournaments domestically and internationally. He was ranked in the top 20 in England seniors for more than 20 years and played for Sussex at junior, senior and veteran level. He played in the Premier Division of the Senior British League for 25 consecutive seasons and now plays in Veterans British League.
He is still an active table tennis player at several levels and particularly enjoys the VETTS scene where he is a multiple national champion in the O/40s and O/50s VETTS events, has represented England VETTS in several international tournaments – and is the ‘Roving Reporter’ for the VETTS newsletter.
Ritchie is now semi-retired, and prior to that held positions as a project manager for a Swedish multi-national company and worked in local government. He joins his wife Susie on the Board – and both can be seen participating at many table tennis events around the country and abroad.
Anna Whowell
Appointed March 2024
Anna is an executive coach across the financial services, legal, pharma and sporting sectors.
She was previously a Managing Director in the City with expertise in sales, marketing and client relationship management.
In 2004 Anna co-founded Citypink, a professional women’s network. By extolling ‘Purpose’ sponsorship Citypink attracted sponsorship from some very significant multi-national organisations. Today the network uses social sporting events as the main tool for social engagement.
Anna has served as a board member of the national LGBTQ± charity Stonewall, advising on female engagement. She has volunteered in the Commercial team at MK Dons.
Anna and her family are avid recreational table tennis players due to its multi-generational appeal.
