Cicely Palmer, who played a key role in the AGM and election processes for Table Tennis England has died just a few weeks after her husband Jim, who was National Elections Scrutineer.
Returning Officer Caroline Williams writes this appreciation:
Cicely Palmer was one of those people who was always willing to help. She had volunteered to be a Teller at Table Tennis England AGMs for many years, going back to at least 2011, usually working alongside her husband Jim on the AGM vote counts, with 2017 being the last AGM she attended.
She also became a National Elections Scrutineer in 2013, and so helped to oversee the unopposed elections in 2014 of Sandra Deaton and Susie Hughes (now Venner) when they first became Chair and Deputy Chair. In November 2014, following a policy change, she had to cease to be a Scrutineer.
For Herefordshire County TTA she was General Secretary for many years until at least 2017. At league level she was League Representative Company Member for Malvern League for many years until June 2017. She no doubt had other roles over the years at County and League level.
Cicely and her husband Jim were family people, proud of their sons and grandchildren, and were very proud that they had clocked up their Diamond Wedding Celebration last summer, complete with a card from the Queen.
Sadly Jim died in July this year, and although she had been suffering ill-health for some months, Cicely was well enough to attend his funeral and enjoyed the party that was held in their lovely garden in celebration of his life. On that day she was pleased to see everyone who came and spoke to us all. She knew me by name even though she had not seen me for a few years.
