Mabel Shute & Ella Pashley (pictured above) successfully defended their Under-17 Girls’ Doubles title on day one of the Mark Bates Ltd Cadet, U17 & Junior National Championships.
Ralph Pattison & Isaac Kingham won the corresponding boys’ title, while the Cadet titles went to Sienna Jetha & Mauli Shah in the girls’ event and Kacper Piwowar & Abraham Sellado in the boys’.

Under-17 Boys’ Doubles
Ralph Pattison & Isaac Kingham saved a match point as they won 12-10 in the fifth over Larry Trumpauskas & Jakub Piwowar in a superb final between the top two pairs.
The top seeds won it 3-2 (7-11, 11-4, 7-11, 11-8, 12-10).
Pattison & Kingham needed four in the semi-finals as they took on last year’s Cadet champions, Max Radiven & Harry Randall. The final scoreline was 3-1 (11-5, 11-7, 9-11, 11-6).
Piwowar & Trumpauskas got past Joseph Dennison & Francesco Bonato 3-0 (11-4, 12-10, 13-11) in the semi-finals.
Pattison & Kingham started with a 3-0 (9, 4, 9) win over William Hopkins & Zac Greenhough in the quarter-finals.
At the same stage, Piwowar & Tumpauskas needed four to see off Joseph Cooper & Fred Jones (8-11, 11-8, 11-6, 11-6)
It was also four as Radiven & Randall beat Fraser Massey & Charlie Williams 12-10, 7-11, 11-4, 11-7 and as Dennison & Bonato defeated Wajid Wafiq & Ben Dunkley 8-11, 11-7, 11-7, 11-6.
Massey & Williams had defeated Ben Levi & Ben McKay 3-0 in the preliminary round.
Under-17 Girls’ Doubles
Ella Pashley & Mabel Shute retained the title they won last year as they defeated Rachael Iles & Mia Lakhani 3-0 (11-7, 11-5, 11-4).
Iles & Lakhani booked their place in the final with a 3-0 (7, 9, 4) victory over higher-ranked Maliha Baig & Tonabel Taguibao.
Pashley & Shute, meanwhile overcame Parmis Ahsani & Luna Archard 4, 4, 8.
In the only preliminary round tie, Ahsani & Archard won in three against Connie Dumelow & Kate Watkinson.
Cadet Boys’ Doubles
Kacper Piwowar & Abraham Sellado lived up to top seeding as they took a 3-0 (11-3, 11-8, 11-3) victory over Theo Kniep & Prayrit Ahluwalia.
Kniep & Ahluwalia reached the final thanks to a 3-0 (7, 4, 9) win over Sinan Surensoy & Aarav Parihar in the semi-finals, while Piwowar & Sellado were take to four before defeating Parsa Yamin & Shahuraj Nimse 11-4, 7-11, 11-4, 11-5.
In the quarters, Surensoy & Parihar sunk the second seeds, Pablo Ramirez Rioja & Dimitar Dimitrov, recovering from the disappointment of missing chances in the third to seal it 3-1 (11-8, 11-7, 14-16, 11-9).
Piwowar & Sellado needed four as well, as the double left-hand pair of Ryan Goodier & Jake Davidson gave a good account of themselves in a 3-1 defeat (9-11, 11-6, 11-9, 12-10).
Also in the quarter-finals, Kniep & Ahluwalia beat Janak Shah & Adam Alibhai in three (7, 6, 7), and it was also three for Yamin & Nimse, though a closer 10, 10, 9 against Devon twins Leo & Hugo Nguyen.
Back in the preliminary round, Surensoy & Parihar fought through a tough encounter with Angad Saggu & Zain Hussain, winning 3-2 (9-11, 11-8, 11-5, 8-11, 13-11).
Cadet Girls’ Doubles
Sienna Jetha won the first of two titles on the day and it was a first national title for London Academy team-mate Mauli Shah.
They lost the first 11-9 to Eva Eccles & Alyssa Nguyen, but quickly turned it around, leading the second 9-0 and going on to win 3-1 (9-11, 11-2, 11-8, 11-9).
In the semi-finals, Jetha & Shah defeated Violet-Lily Marquis & Bly Twomey in three (9, 5, 7), while it was also three for Eccles & Nguyen against Alisha Dutta & Assil Sarri (5, 8, 7).
Dutta & Sarri had brilliantly won their quarter-final against Amber Lemmon & Hannah Saunders, the younger duo fighting all the way before finally going down 3-2 (12-14, 11-9, 11-9, 11-13, 13-11).
In the other quarter-finals, Eccles & Nguyen beat Kate Smith & Akshita Subramanium 3-1 (7-11, 11-4, 11-6, 11-4); Twomey & Marquis got through 3-0 (11-5, 11-7, 11-5) against Maisha Patel & Evie Knaapen; and it was 3-0 (4, 2, 7) for Jetha & Shah over Nour Alamine & Zeina Negm.
In the preliminary round, Smith & Subramanium recovered from 2-1 down to beat Anisha Kant & Catherine Lv 3-2 (11-7, 8-11, 6-11, 12-10, 11-5). Alamine & Negm got through in four against Zoe Gonpot & Eva Yared.
