England are sending a seven-strong squad to the European Team Championships in Sweden next month.
The men’s squad has a familiar look as it comprises Liam Pitchford, Paul Drinkhall, Tom Jarvis and Sam Walker. The women’s squad is Emily Bolton, Mollie Patterson and Jasmin Wong.
The women’s squad has an inexperienced look as England No 1 Tin-Tin Ho has university commitments. Bolton is the most senior member of the line-up, having competed at the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games.
Patterson, who was initially selected for the Commonwealths but was ruled out through injury, gets a belated chance on the big stage, while Wong also heads to her first major senior championships, having made her debut in the second stage of qualifying in May.
Patterson, who won her first senior national title at the Mark Bates Ltd National Championships in March – the Mixed Doubles alongside Ismaila Akindiya – is thrilled to be in the squad.
She said: “I’m delighted that my hard work has been recognised and that I’ve been given the opportunity to represent England at the senior level after a very successful season for me nationally.
“I’m very thankful to everyone who supports me and proud of myself for always continuing my hard work despite any setbacks I’ve had.
“I’m looking forward to working with my team-mates and supporting each other to do the best we possible can in Malmo.”
Head of Performance Development Gavin Evans said: “This is a great competition where our athletes have the opportunity to test themselves against the rest of Europe and I wish them all good luck in Malmo.”
The Championships take place between September 10 and 17 in Malmo.
England men have been drawn in Group G against Romania and Norway, while the women are in Group A against Austria and defending champions Germany.
