Ben Piggott and double national champion Larry Trumpauskas went the furthest for England at the WTT Youth Contender Berlin.
Both reached the last 32 of the under-17 boys’ singles, going out in four games, while Felix Thomis also qualified for the knockouts and went out in a narrow five-game defeat to fifth seed Stepan Brhel.
Trumpauskas also reached the knockouts in the under-15 boys’ singles, going straight into the last 32 as a group winner but succumbing in three to Japan’s Kazuki Yoshiyama.
Ralph Pattison also reached the knockouts, going out in the last 64 to a Norwegian opponent, despite taking the opening two sets.
In the oldest under-19 age group, Piggott (pictured above), Louis Price and Maxim Stevens all reached the last 64 but were eliminated at that stage, while Thomis did not make it out of the group stage.
Abraham Sellado was competing in the under-13 and under-15 boys’ singles but went out in the group stage on both occasions, though he did pick up a good 3-2 (7-11, 9-11, 15-13, 11-4, 11-7) victory over Tien Nghia Phong of Germany in the younger category.
