Kacper Piwowar and Abraham Sellado took team silver and Kacper added individual bronze as the Europe Youth Series moved on to the Greece Open.

The duo qualified for the Under-15 Boys’ Team final with a spectacular 18-0 record in the group stage and semi-finals, overcoming teams from Croatia, Belgium and hosts Greece, including the Greek first team in the semi-finals.

There were some close matches, with both players taken to a deciding singles game on one occasion, and then fighting back as a duo from 7-2 down in the decisive fifth game of the doubles in the semi-final.

Their opponents in the final were an older duo from Poland, and the English pair, who won team gold on the Serbian leg of the Series in September, could not extend their record as they were defeated 3-0 and had to settle for silver.

In the U15 Boys’ Singles, Sellado and Piwowar got through their groups and the last 16 with few alarms. Sellado then met No 1 seed Kacper Perkowski of Poland, pushing him all the way before losing 3-2 (11-9, 9-11, 11-7, 8-11, 11-6).

Piwowar went one better, reaching the semi-finals, where he was defeated by Jan Mrugala, also of Poland, by a 3-0 (11-6, 11-3, 11-7) scoreline. Perkowski beat Mrugala in the final, with Poland taking three of the four places on the podium alongside Piwowar.

In the Mixed Doubles, both English boys teamed up with Romanian partners to reach the quarter-finals, and both lost to Polish pairs.

Sellado & Alexandra-Maria Dicu, seeded fifth went out to top seeds Kacper Perkowski & Maja Lakoma, who went on to win gold, while third seeds Piwowar & Andreea Baiasu were defeated by 11th-ranked Mateusz Gawlas & Natasza Rudolf.
