Jakub Piwowar reached the last 16 of two age groups at the WTT Youth Contender Varazdin in Croatia, with a number of other players also getting through to the knockout stages.

Piwowar made it through in the under-17s, then beat Chen Yu Wei of Hungary and Luca Oprea of Romania in three straight in the first two knockout rounds.

That set up a clash with Borna Petek of Croatia in the last 16. Petek was the third seed and world-ranked No 35, and he duly won 3-0 (11-7, 11-6, 12-10) against the world-ranked No 194 Piwowar.

Five other English players made it into the knockouts. Joseph Hunter and Ralph Pattison reached the last 32, losing to the Mexican sixth seed Rogelio Castro and the Hungarian No 2 seed David Szantosi respectively.

Adam Dennison, Toby Ellis and Joseph Dennison reached the last 64, while Larry Trumpauskas went out in the group stage.

In the under-15s, Piwowar again went the furthest, getting to the last 16, where Oprea got his revenge for the under-17s defeat by winning in three.

Oprea had earlier beaten Pattison 13-11 in a deciding fifth game in the last 32, while Trumpauskas exited at the same stage. Joseph Dennison and Kacper Piwowar went out in the group stage.

Kacper Piwowar also competed in the under-13s, going out in the groups, while Hunter, Adam Dennison, Ellis and Josh Bruce all went out in the group stage of the under-19s.
