Kacper Piwowar’s quarter-final place was the best result for the English boys competing at the WTT Youth Contender Havirov in the Czech Republic.

Piwowar and his older brother Jakub (pictured above) both reached the knockout stage in two age groups, as did Isaac Kingham and Abraham Sellado.

Kacper reached the knockouts in the under-13s with a perfect record of four group victories, a record matched by Abraham Sellado.

Third seed Sellado was beaten 12-10 in a deciding game in the last 16 by a host nation athlete, while second seed Piwowar went into the quarter-finals, where he lost to fifth seed Gorkem Ocal of Turkey, who went on to win the competition.

Piwowar also went through in the under-15s, along with Sellado, Ralph Pattison and Isaac Kingham. Only Piwowar made it through the round of 64 and he was then beaten in the last 32 by Slovakia’s Damian Floro, the second seed.

Jakub Piwowar made it through the group stage in both the under-19 and under-17 competitions. In the older group, he was joined in the knockouts by Larry Trumpauskas, though Joseph Hunter went out in the groups.

Both Piwowar and Trumpauskas were beaten in the last 64 by higher-ranked players.

In the under-17s, Hunter, Pattison and Trumpauskas went out in the groups, leaving Kingham and Jakub Piwowar as the only English representatives in the knockouts.

Kingham went out in the first round to higher-ranked Hungarian Adam Cseri. Piwowar had a bye into the last 64, where he was defeated in five by the host nation’s lower-ranked Jakub Makara.

Tianer Yu and Sienna Jetha compete in the girls’ competitions, which start on Friday.
