The regions of England will do battle at the weekend as more than 140 young players compete at the Inter-Regional Championships.

In total, 10 regions will have squads competing in the event at WV Active in Wolverhampton, with team and individual events at under-15, under-13 and under-11 levels for both boys and girls.

They will represent North West, North East, Yorkshire, East Midlands, East, London, Southern, South East, South West and West Midlands.

As well as the individual and team competitions, also at stake is the Tonge Trophy, awarded to the region with the most points overall.

The team from London will be looking to repeat its dominance from the 2022 edition of the tournament, where the region won four of the six team competitions – the exceptions were the under-15 boys (East) and under-13 boys (South East).

London athletes also won four individual titles – the champions were Zoe Gonpot (under-11 girls), Parsia Ahsani (under-11 boys), Isabella Turner-Samuels (under-13 girls) and Phil Snell (under-13 boys). East’s Eva Eccles was the under-15 girls’ champion and Zac Greenhough of North East won the boys’ event at that age group.

Ahsani and Gonpot are both competing in the older under-13 section this year, while Greenhough will be defending his title.

Not surprisingly, London were runaway winners of the Tonge Trophy last year, ahead of East in second place and South East in third. Pictured above are the four individual champions from London lifting the Tonge Trophy.
