A young player with great potential, who seems to improve every time he picks up a table tennis bat, 17-year-old Ryan Cates has had an excellent year, playing in the Senior British League and other mainland tournaments.
On his home territory, he has won nine awards in singles and doubles events, both open and handicapped.
Ryan will be looking forward to the Isle of Wight’s annual Presentation Evening on 13 September – no one can remember anyone winning nine trophies before.
Ryan goes from strength to strength, always has a positive attitude and really enjoys his table tennis.
IoW Table Tennis Association chairman, Alex Rorke, said: “We’re all really pleased with Ryan’s progress; he has had an excellent year and has worked very hard to develop his game.
“I know that he appreciates all the help that other experienced Island players have given him. We are looking forward great results again this season, as he continues to compete both on the Island and the mainland.”
