The Isle of Wight Super Vets (Over-60s Handicapped) Tournament was held on 21 February, with a field of 16 players.
Congratulations to Spike Hughes who won the event after the disappointment of losing a close semi-final in this tournament last year. Spike was on top form, beating Elaine Mills in the semi final. Only a week earlier, Elaine had reached the final of the Over-70s event.
Matt Mair beat Peter Clarke in the second semi-final. It was revenge for Matt who lost to Peter in the final of this event eight years ago.
Spike then beat Matt in the final. This was a first tournament win for Spike and well deserved. It’s an appropriate reward for regular practice. He is usually the first player to arrive for the two morning practice sessions at the Island’s Table Tennis Centre.
Thanks, as always, go to Tournament Organiser Rob Smith.
