Zac Rylands, an enthusiastic and dedicated player from Keynsham Table Tennis Club (KTTC), Recently attended an inspiring open event at the English Institute of Sport (EIS) in Sheffield, marking the conclusion of Cheltenham Table Tennis Club’s Para Table Tennis Pathway development project. This event is part of a coaching programme led by Nick Davidson aimed at improving pathways for people with disabilities.
During his visit to the EIS, Zac and young players from around the country learned firsthand what it takes to become a Paralympic Table Tennis medallist. The event highlighted what is possible with the right mindset, hard work, and dedication. He gained invaluable insights into the level of commitment required to reach the top of the sport, and the support that is available along the way.
Taking full advantage of the opportunity, Zac toured the state-of-the-art facilities at the EIS and received top-tier coaching. He was also able to meet 2 x Paralympic bronze medallist Billy Shilton, who shared his personal story and offered advice that will no doubt shape Zac’s future in the sport.
The experience has broadened Zac’s perspective, showing him that anything is possible. He left the event more inspired with dreams of competing in para table tennis and is now enjoying regular play at Keynsham together with coaching at the Bristol Academy TTC with dreams of perhaps one day competing on the world stage.
