Thomas Ellis has been relishing taking part in the TT Kidz live sessions during lockdown, and is showing fantastic potential.
Thomas comes from a table tennis-mad family – his older brother Toby is a member of the England Junior Squad and older sister Bethany is currently ranked No 3 in the Cadet rankings.
The family are fortunate enough to have a full-sized table to practise on at home, which Thomas looks forward to using every day.
He first started playing when he was only four years old and according to his mum, Rebecca Ellis, had quite a decent backhand! He went along with his sister to the TT Kidz promotional day at Carlton le Willows, and even at such a young age he loved every second of it.
Thomas now goes to Draycott & LE TTC and trains at home with his siblings and coach Paul Grayham too. He’s also attended a school session with older children.
Rebecca Ellis says: “He is loving doing the TTKidz online as he is missing training with other kids so much and he said his favourite thing about it is it’s very good fun with lots of challenges and he likes it being on the computer to see other children playing too! He said it feels like a training session even though I’m still at home.
“He loves being part of TTKidz as it makes him feel part of something and can show the coaches what he is capable of.”
TT Kidz Programme Lead at Table Tennis England, Colette Gooding, says: “It’s been great to see Thomas take part in the TT Kidz Awards live session, you can see Thomas is really passionate about table tennis and always willing to learn and take on new challenges during the sessions.”
Thomas wants to continue to develop as a player and cannot wait to try tournaments after Covid restrictions are removed.
