Two recently qualified Level 2 umpires are taking their first steps on the international circuit at the upcoming WTT Youth Contender Podgorica.

Swee Kiat Lim and Vincenzo Chiarello both have aspirations to become Level 3 (International) umpires and the competition next month in the capital of Montenegro will provide important experience.

Both passed their written exams for the Level 2 (National) qualification at the WTT Feeder Manchester in February before completing the practical assessments at events last season.

Swee, who become fully qualified at the Mark Bates Ltd Cadet, U17 & Junior National Championships, said: “As this is my first overseas table tennis umpiring duty, I am thrilled to embark on this remarkable journey. This role represents a significant milestone not only in my umpiring career but also in promoting international diversity within the sport.

“My thoughts are filled with excitement and a deep sense of responsibility. I expect to bring high integrity and dedication to every match I officiate, ensuring fair play and sportsmanship.

“I am eager to learn from my peers and contribute to the vibrant table tennis community in Podgorica. This experience promises to be both challenging and rewarding, and I look forward to growing alongside the sport I am passionate about.”

Vincenzo, who completed his Level 2 qualification at the Mark Bates Ltd U10-13 National Championships, said: “I am truly honoured to have been selected among many other dedicated umpires for my first international event in Montenegro. This selection is a significant step in my development journey, and I look forward to improving my skills and learning as much as I possibly can from this experience.

“Representing Table Tennis England on an international stage is a tremendous responsibility. I am committed to showcasing the high level of preparation and seriousness that we put into our sport. This opportunity will not only enhance my knowledge but also allow me to bring back valuable insights to our local tournaments, where I hope to set even higher standards.

“Additionally, I hope to inspire others who are passionate about table tennis by showing the contribution we can make to the sport. Whether it’s supporting existing umpires, players or encouraging younger generations, I believe this experience will equip me with more tools to help others in their own journeys.

Furthermore, this experience will give me a fresh perspective on our role as umpires, allowing me to gain new insights and share them with my colleagues. I believe this will be invaluable as we all strive to elevate the quality and professionalism of umpiring within our community.”
