The first ‘Varsity Match’ at the Ping! Hub at Manchester’s Great Northern Warehouse was a fantastic success.

A total of 24 players from The University of Manchester and Manchester Metropolitan University took part in four ‘friendly’ matches.

This event was designed to bring staff and postgraduate students of all playing abilities together for a friendly table tennis tournament, and to encourage more people from both universities to play table tennis or just to get back involved in the sport again.

Melanie Canham, organiser of the event said: “Various players at both Universities had been looking for a venue to host a Varsity match for ages. The arrival of the Ping! Hub provided a brilliant opportunity to make this happen.

“Everyone had so much fun and there were plenty of laughs. Building on the success of this event, we are hoping to hold further Varsity matches in the near future and looking to involve other Universities in Greater Manchester too.”
