Thanet Vikings Table Tennis Club was founded in September 2016 following a series of successful pilot coaching sessions run by local TTE coaches at Ursuline School, Margate.
The aim of the club is for more young people to become involved in a great sport and to provide a friendly safe environment for table tennis players of all ages and abilities to play in Thanet.
Over the years the club has grown and gone from strength to strength, with players of all levels ranging from 7 years to 87 years of age. Some of the juniors have been with the club since the initial forming, 8 years ago. There are lively, fun beginner sessions for youngsters as well as advanced training sessions for better players and also practice/bat and chat social sessions for all ages and abilities.
Two years ago, a successful TTKidz programme was delivered and some of these young players are now playing in the local league. Teams have been entered into the National Junior League and several players represent Kent County, plus two girls will be competing in the Junior British Club League this season. Many of the junior and senior players regularly participate in TTE ranking tournaments.
Several of the club coaches attended a local Care Home for an afternoon to demonstrate and help the residents to play table tennis, which was recorded as a huge success by the residents and, the coaches found it very rewarding. Equipment is also loaned to support local charity events.
