Paul Drinkhall went out of the WTT Star Contender Bangkok Men’s Singles at the first hurdle – but Sam Walker & Tin-Tin Ho are into the Mixed Doubles quarter-finals.
Drinkhall was up against Spain’s Alvaro Robles (WR 43) in the round of 64, and it was well poised after two games – Drinkhall saved two game points in the first before losing it 12-10, but hit back in the second as he built an 8-2 lead and took it 11-6.
However, Robles put his foot down from 5-3 in the third, taking it without losing another point, and then completed a 3-1 victory on his third match point.
Liam Pitchford enters in the round of 32 and will play Ovidiu Ionescu (WR 118) of Romania, who today defeated France’s Can Akkuzu (WR 51) in five.
The match is due on Table 4 at around 8.10am UK time on Wednesday – click here to watch on the WTT YouTube channel.
In the Mixed, Walker & Ho continued their good run with their third win of the tournament, defeating Brian Afanador & Adriana Diaz of Puerto Rico in five, though they never trailed, in the last 16.
They will face Lin Gaoyuan & Chen Xintong (CHN) in the quarter-finals, also on Table 4, at 6.55am UK time on Wednesday – click here to watch.
Pitchford & Drinkhall were seeded fourth in the Men’s Doubles but went out in four in the last 16 to Xue Fei & Xu Yingbin of China.
