As the new season starts today, August 1, a number of important changes to competitions and rankings go live.

Competition Review

This season sees the start of the implementation of the National Competition Review, including the new National Series, which starts later this month, and the U21 National Cup in September.

Members can also enter the first of the Senior 4* tournaments, in Cambridge on August 31-September 1, here.

Please visit our dedicated website section for further details on all aspects of the National Competition Review.

Online tournament entry

Following the transition of all national tournaments to online entry and payment, a pilot will shortly take place for online entry to regulated events such as 1* and 2* tournaments, and which will also include an online event sanctioning process for the organisers.

Regulations

A number of updates and amendments have been made to various Competition & Event Regulations arising out of the National Competition Review, or to add clarity to the categorisation of regulated events.

There are also updates which set out new requirements around coaching in team events, as previously announced.

Rankings

A number of enhancements to the functionality of the Rankings system have been developed over the summer, including the ability for members to filter rankings by county and by combination of counties, a new rankings ‘floor’ (minimum value) of 100pts, and functionality to better support players transitioning nationality and/ or gender.

Some updates to how information is displayed will also improve the numbering of lapsed members, add visual icons to indicate a players’ movement in a ranking list since the previous month, and make it easier to differentiate between zero-ranked and non-ranked players.

The 2024/25 ranking run dates and the 2024/25 season-opening rankings will be released after the August ranking run on Wednesday 7 August, and will include the transition of final-year Cadets to Juniors, and final-year Juniors to Seniors.

Details of the ranking system can be seen here.

British Clubs Leagues

Members will see the new branding identity for national clubs leagues start to be implemented across British League, National Cadet League (NCL) and National Junior League (NJL) in the coming weeks.

Entries for the Cadet and Junior sections remain open, having moved to online entry and payment.

Membership for competition entry

Season 2024/25 memberships are now available – including the new free-of-charge U11s category.

A new ‘One Time Tournament Pass’ is due to be launched shortly, to allow non-playing members or lapsed members to enter a tournament event.

Please note that all memberships are now online or via the Customer Services Team on 01908 208860, including the former ‘Single Competition Licence’ (now called ‘One Time Tournament Top-Up’) which acts as a top-up from Compete to Compete Plus membership. Memberships cannot be purchased at an event.
