Olympic legend Chris Boardman stopped off at Table Tennis England during an awareness-raising cycle journey from Manchester to Paris.

The Barcelona 1992 cycling gold medallist, also a three-time world champion on track and road, is now Sport England Chair.

His eight-day, 550-mile Pedal for Paris event aims to highlight inspirational and innovative organisations in England that are working to become environmentally sustainable.

Table Tennis England is currently working on a Sustainability Policy which will be made public later this year and Head of Operations, Jo Keay-Blyth, met Chris to update him and to lend our support to his mission.

She also signed, on behalf of Table Tennis England, the Going for Green Pledge, which commits organisations to become more environmentally sustainable.

Jo said: “Sport is in a good position to show leadership in encouraging society to become more sustainable and signing the pledge is a key action of our own Sustainability Policy which will be published later this year.”

Chris, who also met representatives of Badminton England and the Milton Keynes Mayor, Marie Bradburn, said: “Our new sustainability strategy, Every Move, promised we would take the lead on tackling climate change.

“That’s why Pedal for Paris will shine a light on some of the most inspirational and innovative people and projects that are working to put the environment first and protect their sport for future generations.

“We are asking every sports organisation and club in England to follow their lead and take urgent action to tackle climate change.”
