What’s new from Club Matters in March?

Club Matters is a Sport England Lottery funded programme that provides free resources, support, guidance and workshops to:

· Grassroots sports clubs, groups and community organisations.

· The professional workforce that supports grassroots sports clubs, groups and community organisations.

Club Matters resources are designed to support organisations who are looking to set up, develop, grow, reach out to new communities and maximise their engagement with new and existing members, participants and volunteers. If you are part of a large, small, formal or informal group, or work to support the development of these organisations, Club Matters is here to help you.

Engaging women and girls

Last week was International Women’s Day, and the day’s theme was #BreakTheBias, encouraging people to work towards a society free of bias, stereotypes and discrimination. Preventing these issues is vital to creating positive, inclusive environments and cultures at community sports organisations, so understanding the needs and factors affecting different groups of people is really important.

To support clubs/groups with this, the Club Matters ‘Engaging women and girls’ webpage explores the motivations and barriers of younger girls, teenage girls and women when it comes to sport and activity, drawing from research by Sport England and Women in Sport. The infographic on increasing female sports participation follows this up with some top tips, whilst the Club Natters podcast episode covers the rise of women’s sport and attracting more women and girls to clubs/groups, with the help of a few experts.
